Who Is A Good Candidate For Clear Braces?
Clear braces are made from tooth-colored brackets, which makes them less visible than traditional metal braces. Therefore, they are an ideal selection for older teenagers and adults who need orthodontic treatment. However, they do require more care than metal braces due to the fact that they utilize clear elastic bands that may become stained or yellow if not properly maintained. As for removable teeth aligning treatments, such as Invisalign, patients run the chance of prolonging treatment if an aligner is missing or not worn for the recommended period of time. Thus, clear braces are a terrific option since they provide ongoing, uninterrupted treatment.
What to Expect from Clear Braces
On the day of your visit, we'll clean and polish your teeth with a special cleaner. Then, we will brush on a sealant, and the tips of your teeth will be lightly smoothed if needed. The clear brackets will then be placed on each tooth. Once the mounts are in their proper position, we'll utilize ultraviolet (UV) light to immediately harden the glue. This very simple process shouldn't cause any discomfort and secures the braces to your teeth. The last step is threading the wire through each of the brackets and using tiny white bands to fasten the wire to the brackets. The whole process generally takes a few hours to finish.
What Happens After I Receive Clear Braces?
After your clear ceramic braces are set, you may have some discomfort as your gums, teeth, and lips adjust to the appliance in your mouth. Although a little discomfort is normal, these symptoms should get better over time and may be fixed with dental wax that shields your mouth from the mounts or over-the-counter pain relievers.
Although the ceramic brackets do not easily stain, the elastics that are put over your braces can darken with the consumption of certain drinks and food such as coffee, berries, and more. Consequently, Dr. Claustro recommends you do your best to avoid these to keep up the appearance of these braces. Brushing, flossing, and mouthwash after each meal will also ensure proper overall look and oral hygiene.
